Halle (Saale) Germany

Located in the pedestrian underpass at the main train station, we dedicate this Wonderful Women Wall to 14 women who have lived and worked in and around Halle (Saale) or are currently making an important contribution to the cultural diversity of our city. The work is related to the already existing portraits at Riebeckplatz. There, 48 personalities of the city of Halle are depicted in 120 light boxes – including only two women.

For each column, a main color as well as an abstract form were developed for each woman, embodying her personality and her work. The neighboring columns pick up on the main colors and continue them to form a coherent and dynamic overall work of art. Nevertheless, each column stands on its own in appreciation of the individual person. The ensemble design can be viewed from all the different angles that arise in the underpass. To make this otherwise rather dark space appear brighter, we opted for vivid and clear colors. The dynamics of the pedestrian underpass as a transit space are supported by the design, but the place now appears friendlier and more inviting.

Anyone who spends more time here, waiting for a streetcar or train for example, can take a closer look at the design, its formal language and the women depicted, and immerse themselves in the history and cultural landscape of the city.
